Mumbai: It's summer and the heat has already started to soar making us all sweat and feel sticky. Stepping out of the house makes us fell irritable and cranky. Here are 5 things you can do to stay fresh and cool this summer.

1. Drink lots of fluids and liquids

Drinking water and liquids like juices, coconut water and milkshakes help maintain the water content in the body and keeps you healthy and cool.

During summers the water loss is the body is high as the heat causes the body to emit a lot of sweat which leads to water and fluids from the body getting evaporated.

Water content in the body is managed well if one drinks a lot of liquids.

2. Take a cool summer cut

Taking a new shorter hair cut during summer helps one feel fresh and cool. If one doesn't want shorter hair tying hair in a ponytail or bun is good way to beat the heat.

Sweating leads hair to get sticky and smelly which adds to the irritability. The cool hair cut or hair style helps one feel more confident and makes the irritation level lower.

3. Use wet wipes or wash face regularly

Continuous sweating leads to a sticky face and neck which adds to the irritability faced by many during summers. Using wet wipes helps make the face moisturised and non-sticky.

The freshness of a sweet smelling wet wipe brand makes it better for people to feel fresh when they are unable to wash their face regularly.

Washing the face makes the cells of the face get refreshed and is the simplest and best way to beat the heat.

4. Use sunscreen and carry an umbrella

The summer sun and heat can cause sun strokes, using a sunscreen helps prevent the skin from getting tanned and helps keep it healthy.

Carrying an umbrella helps prevent the strain of the sun from causing strokes, fatigue and palpitation.

Sun screen and an umbrella are extremely useful to help prevent health issues caused by long hours in the intense summer sun.

5. Wear cotton or light colour clothes

During summers wearing cotton clothes helps keep cool. Wearing light coloured clothes reflects the intense heath of the sun and reduces the sweat emitted by the body.

Expectant mothers who drink two cups of coffee a day, are more likely to have babies with lower birth weight, researchers have claimed.

Researchers at Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, Sweden, conducted a study on 59,000 women in collaboration with the Norwegian Institute of Public Health.

“The correlation between intake of caffeine and fetal growth was established even among women who followed the official recommendation that they limit caffeine consumption to 200 milligrams a day (two cups of coffee),” researcher Verena Sengpiel said.

The medical term used in this connection is “small for gestational age” (SGA), which is associated with an elevated risk of morbidity and death.

The new results are consistent with previous international studies but are based on a considerably larger cohort.

The participants were healthy and had uncomplicated pregnancies until delivery, while the results were adjusted for age, smoking, body mass index, nicotine consumption, alcohol use and other variables that affect fetal growth.

“We need to stress that our study did not examine whether caffeine is the specific mechanism substance by which responsible for the fetus is being at greater risk of low birth weight,” Sengpiel said.

“Nor did we look at whether these babies actually had special health problems during the neonatal period. Additional research is needed before we can say for sure what our finding actually means for pregnant women and their babies,” she added.

The other purpose of the study was to determine whether women who consumed caffeine during pregnancy were more likely to give birth prematurely. Such a correlation could not be established.

The research team is hoping to conduct more in-depth studies about the cause-effect relationship between caffeine use and SGA, as well as any correlation between SGA and neonatal morbidity and death.

The study is set to be published in the journal BMC Medicine.

Now, you can bank on netbanking

Mumbai: Nationalised banks have started taking precautionary measures to ensure that people don’t lose their money through netbanking fraud. The measures were taken after Rs1 crore was transferred from an account with a nationalised bank to various accounts in 45 minutes using National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT).

According to the police, every bank has its own system pertaining to NEFT. Some banks give a lag period of 24 hours to the customer (account holder) after s/he transfers funds to the beneficiary’s account. During these 24 hours, the account holder is sent an SMS on her/his registered mobile number through which s/he knows the status of her/his fund transfer. In case of any foul play, the account holder can approach the bank authorities and, subsequently, the police to report the matter.

Some banks, however, allow funds to reach the beneficiary’s account as soon as the transfer is made. Netbanking frauds are usually committed in the latter case, a police officer added.

A spokesperson of a nationalised bank said, “Earlier, we allowed funds to reach the beneficiaries’ accounts immediately after the transfer. However, after this incident, we have changed it. We now give a lag period of 24 hours to our account holders during which they can cancel the transaction.
In case of an emergency, only Rs50,000 can be transferred using Immediate Money Transfer.”
The spokesperson added that the mechanisms used by banks keep changing due to pressure and dynamics.

The netbanking fraud occurred on January 31 between 9.15am and 10am. It only came to light when an employee of the company, to which the account belonged, tried to log in and found that it was blocked. After informing the company’s director, officials used a secondary username and password to login only to find that Rs1 crore had been transferred into 12 different accounts. The matter was then reported to the Mulund police.

While the police managed to block the account in which more than Rs60 lakh was transferred, the remaining was withdrawn by the accused. In the following few days, the Mulund police arrested 16 people involved in the crime, including a Delhi resident. Many more arrests are likely in the case.
